Pineapple Paradise

Last full day on the island! We slept in and had breakfast at the hotel - it was okay, the cheese was our favorite! We saw our New England friends and wished them safe travels as they were on their way home.

First destination of the day was the pineapple farm! Each year, 700-1000 tons of pineapple are produced on the island. We walked around Ananas dos Acores, tasted the pineapple liquor (SO good!), and got a pina colada and piece of pineapple cake to share!

Next was our waterfall/catwalk hike at the old hydro plant! We saw the 40-meter Salto do Cabrito waterfall and passed both the active Salto do Cabrito Hydroelectric Station and the deactivated Fajã Redonda Hydroelectric Power Station. It was a little muddy but not too bad, and not crowded at all. We’re definitely getting a good amount of activity mixed in with all of the eating and drinking we’re doing!

After the hike we swam in our pool at the resort and then dressed up for dinner!

Dinner was absolutely fantastic. We ate at the farm to table restaurant Quinta Dos Sabores. It was a six course meal with wine pairings and they had a fully vegetarian option for me! We took a break toward the end and walked through the garden, it was lovely.

Today is a travel day - we had a mediocre breakfast at the hotel again and then packed and headed to the rental car return! The staff at the hotel were really great, and so was the room, but the bed was a bit stiff (it was a matress on top of rock, essentially). The car was great, we rented through Go - over the five days we had it we only used about half a tank of gas. Now we’re checked in with SATA (Azores Airlines) and boarding shortly - next update will come from Porto!
