Back on the Horse

Well hello there! Let’s do this blog thing - since at present I’m on a train from Glasgow to Mallaig, which is about a five and a half hour journey.

Brigid and I arrived to Edinburgh on different planes Friday morning. I was first, so while I waited for her I had a coffee and booked accommodations for the rest of our trip - we planned this one a little late. Once she found me, despite my poor directions, we took off on a train to Glasgow.

It’s just a short trip, but due to my inability to decipher the train system we went a wee bit out of the way. Around 2pm we made it to our hotel, the AC Glasgow (a Marriott hotel) - it was delightful. Well decorated, comfy bedding, and gigantic towels. We got whipped coffees from Costa coffee and then had American fare at the Fat Hippo. Neither of us have been to Glasgow so we decided to do the hop on hop off bus since we were only there for the day and it was actually a beautiful day out. We got good seats up top and enjoyed the automated recording of the Scottish tour guide until it became quite chilly and started to rain, then we moved to the bottom of the bus at the back and enjoyed the rest of the ride from there.

We were pretty tired even though we both slept a decent amount on the plane, so we found a spot for tee and pastry, and then I insisted on hitting up a Detroit pizza spot (spoiler alert, it was only okay), and then we headed back to the hotel for sleep - which I did almost immediately.

This morning we headed out at the crack of dawn from Glasgow Queen Street station (presently at Tulloch) for the ScotRail train to Mallaig (extreme west coast). Stopped at Costa coffee for a coffee & toastie and have been enjoying the scenery from our table seats. Cheers!
